We’re back from Colorado! We had a wonderful adventure out west and were proud to take part in the Axel Project Bicycle Classic!
Jonathan and around 100 other riders took either a 48 or 80 mile ride over the Dallas Divide from Ridgway, Colorado into either Placerville or all the way into Telluride and back. Jonathan rode the 80 miler with around 5,000 ft. of total climbing! Jonathan was able to enjoy an 18 minute downhill at 50.7 mph. Sarah had a ball volunteering for the ride assisting with the post-ride events!

All proceeds for the ride benefited the Axel Project. This is a special non-profit that is close to our hearts. The Axel Project was created in honor of our close friends 2 year old son, Axel, who was killed in February 2013. Axel loved his Strider Balance Bike and would go anywhere his wheels would take him. The Axel Project provides Strider bicycles and instruction to children and organizations in need, ages 18 months to 5-years of age, to teach the basic skills necessary to get them riding on two wheels.

Family Bike Shop carries Axel Project tshirts for children and adults and we NOW are carrying the newly released book, “ZOOM!”. This book is an eight-page adventure book suitable for children ages 6 months to 4 years, filled with the colorful artwork of Kellie Day and the fun, endearing rhymes created by its authors, Jennifer Charrette (Axel’s Mother) and Marcia Kinne. Aimed at showing children what it means to live bravely and passionately, it follows the story of an active, happy youngster and his adventures on a balance bike– a type of first bike that kids propel by running rather than pedaling.
Foreword by George Hincapie. A portion of proceeds benefits the Axel Project. Just $10!
